Meet the Artist:
Staša Stević

I am Staša, born and currently living in Montenegro, a small country in the Balkans.
My art is usually based on things I see and wish to make more of because they are special to me for one reason or another. I like to do prints in intaglio or linocut or combinations sometimes.

Why printmaking?
I enjoy the process of it: I like how you never know how each print is going to turn out, I like the patience it takes, and I like the dedication it takes. I want an intimate connection with each thing I decide to carve. When I’m not creating art, I like to spend time wandering streets, staring at buildings, trees or people doing everyday stuff–I like to notice how things look different every time you see them. Also, music and philosophy inspire me; most of the people I end up creating art about are musicians, writers, or thinkers.

Sometimes, I like to take pictures of people that I see working, waiting, sleeping, usually someone who catches my eyes, and I later draw them. There’s usually some kind of quiet philosophy behind my work, but I don't overexplain it. I like lonely places and people, and I like black and white prints because they sometimes show more than any color would.
